Unexpected Meeting

On the day when death announced itself
infinity condensed to measured hours
A tidal wave engulfed a tranquil life
All color   texture   scent and taste   all sound
except the ticking of the clock were drowned
And when at last the roiling waters ebbed
the landscape was irrevocably changed

Winter came in August of that year
I found myself a lone    frozen    crone

I don't know when it was that calm returned
Surely after I released all else
and gathered only words  resonant
cadenced    thunderous     echoing    holy words
to help me write my song
