Kathleen Paul-Flanagan, Poet

Lies

I toss my questions to the sky.
I howl, bathed in midnight moonlight.
Yes, I know you would never lie.

I spend days trying not to cry,
poised, stock-still, waiting for the night
to hurl questions at the sky.

How can I possibly deny
the primal feelings you ignite?
I'm sure you would never lie.

All I can ever do is try,
with every atom, all my might
to toss those questions to the sky.

I want to soar, to really fly,
to spread my wings in graceful flight,
Knowing in my heart, you don't lie.

If I should give up with a sigh,
without giving it the good fight-
Please toss those questions to the sky
and tell them all we didn't lie.
